i cu wa ko luma no mita? (Ami language) English translation: Where, indeed, is my home? "038" is the area code of telephone numbers in Hualien, Taiwan. With this number as a motif, local subject matters such as customs, geography, tourism, culture, transport, residents, social issues, and indigenous peoples are presented in the form of modern dance theatre in an attempt to elicit thoughts and concern from the audience pertaining to the issues of land and culture, which can then be extended to include profound introspection about one's homeland, country, and even the world.
Kuo-Shin Chuang Pangcah Dance Theatre
The Kuo-Shin Chuang Pangcah Dance Theatre was established in 2005 and is the first dance troupe in eastern Taiwan to showcase the music and dance culture of its indigenous peoples through the interpretation techniques of experimental theatre, presented in a modern dance style. Kuo-Shin Chuang, the artistic director, is a member of the Amis people. All 12 regular members of the experimental theater possess strong foundations in traditional music and dance. Some of the international art festivals that the group has participated in recently include the 2019 Festival OFF d'Avignon in France, the 2018 ChangMu International Dance Festival in Korea, the Migration Matters Festival in Sheffield, England, and the 2017 Taiwan Season - Edinburgh Festival Fringe in the United Kingdom. The troupe has won the 2018 Pulima Art Award (Merit).
